To help the deserving students of the GSB Community The Fund is engaged in the following Activities:
Loan Scholarships:
The first and foremost activity of the Fund was granting of Loan Scholarships.
The goal of the Fund is:
That no deserving student of GSB Community abandons his education for the only reason – lack of financial assistance.
To start with the financial assistance sanctioned were of meager amounts and gradually the amounts were increased. At present the Fund awards Rs. 10,000/- per year as Loan Scholarship to every eligible student.
Repayable Loan Scholarships are awarded to degree level students undertaking study in Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, Veterinary Science, Hotel Management and Post Graduate Course in Science, Arts, Commerce, Business Administration, Computer Application in Indian Universities provided no stipends are received by such students. The loans are interest free for the normal duration of the course.
For Post Graduate Studies (in Technical Courses) abroad a lump-sun payment of Rs.40, 000/- is awarded as repayable loan scholarship.
To avail the loan scholarships, applications in the prescribed form available in the office of the Fund, completed in all respects should reach the office of the Fund on or before 15th of November of the relevant academic year for which the assistance is sought.
The reciepient of the repayable loan scholarship has to provide a co-obligant. If the scholarship is awarded the applicant and the co-obligant have to sign an agreement in which the repayment schedule of repayment is mentioned.
Free Scholarships:
Though the repayable loan scholarships were awarded from the year of inception, the Free Scholarships (or the Gift Scholarships) were awarded only from the year 1946-47. The Free Scholarships are awarded for post SSLC course in the Colleges viz.,
PUC
Degree (Science, Arts, Commerce and other disciplines)
Diploma Course (Polytechnic)
At present each awardees is paid Rs. 2000/- per year.
To avail the free scholarships, applications in the prescribed form available in the office of the Fund, completed in all respects should reach the office of the Fund on or before 15th of September of the relevant academic year for which the assistance is sought.
Book Bank:
Providing further impetus to the pursuit of knowledge is our Book Bank – started in 1977 – which makes available a collection of over 16,000 technical volumes for the benefit of students of the community pursuing full time study in professional courses. To avail this facility a students has to apply in the prescribed form available in the office of the Fund and deposit the amount prescribed for the course of study. The member can borrow four to six books subject to availability and keep them for a semester and return them at the end of the semester and borrow again for the next semester for the duration of his entire course.
